The SAL Blog

The SAL Blog

Working on the website

The website was started in 1998, when my sons and I needed some kind of activity during a rainy summer week. Since then the website has developed into a huge portal and resource about an important part of 20th century shipping and Swedish corporate history. The site also plays a central part in my interest in the Swedish - American heritage.

About SALPosted by Lars Hemingstam Jun 10, 2010 17:39:42

For some time, I have been thinking of starting a blog about the "work" with the SAL website, There are many related facts, events and comments that don't easily fit into the context of the SAL website.

What started as a pastime a rainy summer 12 years ago, has become a pleasant and important part of my life. I have made many new friends throughout the years, on both sides of the ocean. At present, the SAL site has about 8,000 visits per month, and 250,000 to 300,000 hits per month. The site also plays a major part in my interest in the Swedish - American heritage.

My other project right now is finishing a book about my parents. The text is written, the layout is formatted, and I am now inserting about 80 photos. The book will be published in the autumn of 2010. Among other topics, the book tells the story of my family's life in the USA 1957 - 60.

I will try my best to find time to keep up this blog, hopefully with several updates per week, in the days and weeks to come.
